Though the National Weather Service had predicted the storm would sweep into the mountains around Aspen Thursday night and continue through Friday, no more snow had fallen in town by early afternoon. Snow showers are predicted Friday night, with lows of zero to 10 above, and again on Saturday, with highs of 15 to 25 and wind-chill readings of 5 below to 5 above. Snow is also likely Sunday, according to the weather service.

Thursday night’s snow bumped avalanche danger up to high in the Aspen area, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center. It is extreme in the northern and southern San Juan Mountains to the south, where an avalanche warning was in effect Friday.

An avalanche watch was in effect Friday in the Aspen zone, where heavier, wetter snow fell on a drier, lighter layer, according to the CAIC.
