Snowmass picks up a foot of snow

ASPEN, Colorado ” Snowmass received a foot of snow Tuesday night, while the top of Aspen Mountain picked up 9 inches, according to the Aspen Skiing Company’s Wednesday morning snow report.
Opening day in Aspen/Snowmass is Thursday, though the resort was predicting Tuesday that only Fanny Hill at Snowmass would be open to skiing and riding on Thanksgiving Day.
The resort, however, has also said the terrain it will open on Thursday will be an “hour by hour” decision. Snowguns were blasting on local mountains overnight and Wednesday morning.
A final update on what terrain will open Thursday is expected Wednesday afternoon.
Aspen Highlands, which is not scheduled to open until Dec. 8, received 5 inches overnight, while Buttermilk, also slated to open Dec. 8, picked up 3 inches on top.
Meanwhile, the sun was shining in downtown Aspen by 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Roughly 2 to 3 inches fell in town overnight.
