Snowmobiler rescued near Vail Pass

VAIL ” A Florida woman spent about eight hours trapped in a ravine while snowmobiling on Shrine Pass Road with her husband Saturday.

John Grosso called Summit Snowmobile, the Frisco company the couple rented snowmobiles from, around 2 p.m. saying he couldn’t find his wife, 48-year-old Elaine Grosso, according to an Eagle County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Three Summit Snowmobile employees looked for her for about two and a half hours before calling 911.

Vail Mountain Rescue sent two people up Shrine Pass from the bottom of Red Cliff, while Summit County Rescue sent six, two-member teams in from the top of Vail Pass.

Rescuers found Elaine Grosso, of Plant City, Fla., in a ravine around 7:53 p.m. about four miles from the top of Vail Pass.

She was airlifted to St. Anthony’s Central Hospital in Denver around 9:20 p.m. The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office did not have an update on her condition Sunday.

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Vail Mountain Rescue Group, Summit County Rescue Group, Summit Snowmobile and a Flight for Life helicopter from St Anthony’s Central Hospital all helped with the rescue.
