Snowpack declines in Colorado

DENVER (AP) ” Colorado’s snowpack has declined slightly in the past week, from 127 percent of the 30-year average to 121 percent Saturday.

But the cold weather will make sure it does not begin melting early. And more snow is falling in the mountains, where Loveland Pass is closed.

Several other mountain passes are closed and drivers should check conditions before heading up to the high country.

In addition to being the life’s blood of ski areas, municipal water providers, energy companies and agriculture depend on melting snow.
