Snowshoe raises funds for Vail Symposium
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL VALLEY – You can join the Vail Symposium Monday or the Cordillera Simple Charity Snowshoe Series. Participants will set out from the Cordillera Nordic Center at 7 p.m. and walk or run the 5k singletrack and groomed trails. The event raises money for local charities and 100 percent of proceeds go to the organization.
The series started a few years ago, after some organizations in the Vail Valley approached the Nordic Center looking for ways to raise money. The first series included a few daytime events and one evening event. Lisa Isom, one of the founders of the event, created the night series. The evening event was so popular that the following year all of the events were held in the evenings.
“What many people don’t realize is that Cordillera Nordic Center is a public facility and it is located right in the valley,” Isom said.
Proceeds from Monday’s event will benefit the Vail Symposium. The Symposium is currently in the middle of a winter schedule that has included speakers from all around the world talking everything from politics to art. Some of the guests thus far have been Reza Aslan, a professor at UC Riverside and an accomplished author. They also brought acclaimed ski film producer Greg Stump to show some of his older films, as well as introduce his new film, “Legend of Aahhhs.” . Their popular Unlimited Adventure series continues with mountaineer Jeff Evans, and treasure hunter Kirsten Gum from the Travel Channel.
After Monday’s snowshoe, food will be provided by Timber Hearth Grill.
