Some where between Michael McDonald and Marc Cohen
When Jan Garrett and JD Martin met in 1995, they had each been writing, recording, and performing their own music for many years as accomplished solo artists.
JD is an award-winning songwriter of five No. 1 and 10 Top Ten hit singles, whose songs have been recorded by such luminaries as Reba McEntire, the Oak Ridge Boys, Peter Cetera and new country pop star Kellie Coffey. His solo album, “One Heart,” features a style somewhere between the best of Michael McDonald and Marc Cohen.
Jan is a jazz singer/songwriter and vocal coach, visionary, poet, earth advocate, meditation student, certified laughing instructor and parent of twin daughters, who has toured with John Denver and Steve Martin, and appeared on the “Tonight Show.” She teaches piano-by-ear and “authentic voice,” and leads retreats on the “Wild Woman Archetype.” Her original songs appear on two solo CDs, “Don’t Go Back to Sleep” and “Gypsy Midwife, Songs for Soul Retrieval.”
Together, Garrett and Martin weave a message about taking a stand for a sane, balanced and compassionate world, in the midst of what sometimes seems like cultural madness. Their recently released collaborative CD, “I Dreamed of Rain,” is strong spiritual and political wake-up call. The spiritual duo plays at the Avon Public Library Sunday at 5:30 p.m. for a free show sponsored by the Unity of the Mountains Church.
