SOS kicks off winter season in Vail Valley

VAIL VALLEY, Colorado – SOS Outreach, the Vail Valley nonprofit organization that gets kids involved in winter and outdoor sports, is holding orientation this weekend for all Eagle County students in the multi-year university program.
Program director Michelle Hartel said the staff looked forward to seeing the students again.
“The entire Eagle County staff is really eager to introduce a few new faces to the sherpa team this year and reconnect with everyone,” she said.
Orientation is for all Eagle County students who are enrolled in the multi-year university program.
Students who are returning for their second, third, and fourth year will have orientation on from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, at Berry Creek Middle School in Edwards. Graduates from the introductory Learn-to-Ride program will be introduced to their first year of the university program from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, at the school.
Hartel said the first-year University students will also get their first taste of public service on Sunday, as the students will be asked to help clean up the school grounds, including the basketball court, baseball field and soccer field.
Executive director Arn Menconi said this year SOS expects to serve 4,500 youth, including 500 in Eagle County.
