The Battle Mountain High School speech team drove the snowy roads to Glenwood Springs Dec. 3 for a competition. Here’s how they did:- Value debate: Jamie Jay placed fifth, Chelsea Araydin placed second and Josie Sutner placed first.- Public forum debate: Nicole Frye and Olivia Fauland placed fourth, Scott Harp and Ellicott Dandy placed second and Megan O’Rouke and Sophie Sunderland placed first.- Original oratory: Jamie Jay placed fourth.- Solo acting: Emma Szindler placed fourth, Kelly Lemon placed third and Rebecca Richardson placed second.- Creative storytelling: Connor Penhale earned an “excellent” rating.- Impromptu speaking: Connor Penhale placed third and Josie Sutner placed first.- Poetry interpretation: Karli Scherer placed fifth.- Humor interpretation: David Grey placed sixth.- The team’s next competition is Jan. 7 in Steamboat Springs.. ….
