Spelling bee: Eagle County student qualifies for state

EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” Students from seven local elementary and middle schools participated in a spelling bee at the Eagle County Charter Academy Wednesday.

The winning word was “advantageous,” which qualified Karina Velasco from Gypsum Creek Middle School to participate in the state competition in Denver in March.

1st runner up: Sierra Gutierrez, 8th grade, Gypsum Creek Middle

2nd runner up: Andrew Pope, 6th grade, Eagle County Charter Academy

Tie for 4th place: Tabor Whitney, 6th grade, Stone Creek Charter School

Stephanie Keys, 8th grade, Gypsum Creek Middle School

Chase Keep, 5th grade, Edwards Elementary

Participating schools were:

Eagle Valley Middle School

Edwards Elementary

Brush Creek Middle School

Stone Creek Charter School

Eagle County Charter Academy
