Devils cross-country starts fast at D’Evelyn

Eagle Valley's Aiden Branch races his way to a 13th-place finish at the D'Evelyn Dash on Saturday down in Denver. The Devils girls finished seventh at the meet, while the boys were sixth.

DENVER — The only thing slowing down Eagle Valley cross-country on Saturday was the team bus, which broke down on its way back from the team's season-opening meet.

The Devils started their season off nicely at the D'Evelyn Dash on Saturday as their ladies finished seventh and their gents took sixth.

Joslin Blair and Avery Doan finished third and fourth, respectively. They were both under 12 minutes at the two-mile mark, a nice sign to start the season.

"The girls did some great things," Devils coach Melinda Brandt said. "The start was a bit tight like Liberty Bell, but our 3-6 girls did a great job by closing some gaps."

Aiden Branch led the boys on Saturday. The Devils guys qualified for state last year, and that's their intent in 2017.

The Hoss Award winners for the D'Evelyn Dash were Jack Neifert and Lindsey Castillo.
