Palisade blanks Eagle Valley, 49-0

GYPSUM — It was all Palisade on Friday night.

The Bulldogs (6-1, 2-0 3A Western Slope) had their way against the Devils (2-5, 1-1), winning 49-0. With the win, Palisade has not lost to Eagle Valley since 2005, the last time the Devils won the Slope.

"We'll have to look at the film and see. I don't know right now," said Devils coach Tom LaFramboise after the game. "Nothing really went right."

The Devils offense managed three first downs in the first half while the defense struggled to contain the Bulldogs both through the air and the on the ground.

Dizzy Defense

Bulldogs quarterback P.D. Riddle had the Devils defense confused all night, trying to keep track of backs Tanner Pratt and Austin Bernal as well as his receivers.

Palisade scored touchdowns on all five of its first-half possessions, while Eagle Valley managed four punts.

Pratt got the scoring started on the second play from scrimmage, busting a 54-yard run straight up the gut untouched to the end zone. Riddle found Isaac Maestas on a short slant for the second score, and Maestas finished the next drive with a 5-yard touchdown run.

Riddle scored on the next two possessions, a 3-yard run and a 51-yard run on fourth down and inches.

"I'm really blessed because we can throw and run," said Bulldogs coach Joe Ramunno. "For us, we've just got keep getting better and continuing on."

The Bulldogs defense made life difficult for Devils quarterback Garrett Martin.

The senior quarterback had little time to throw all night and was hit hard throughout the night.

The Devils offense didn't cross midfield until their final drive, which ended at the Palisade 43 before time ran out.

Palisade just looked bigger than Eagle Valley, and the Bulldogs were with a few linemen listed at over 300 pounds.

While Palisade gets ready to host Battle Mountain, Eagle Valley has to prepare for a matchup with Rifle on the road as each game becomes more and more important for a possible shot at the playoffs for the Devils.

"We'll be ready for next week," LaFramboise said.
