The Super Saturday ‘play your game’ edition
November 2, 2016
So, anyone doing anything on Saturday?
Eagle Valley volleyball hosts the Region 2 Tournament in Gypsum, starting at 11 a.m.
Vail Mountain School soccer hosts a 3A quarterfinal at noon — noon is time change, people — against Colorado Springs Christian.
Battle Mountain soccer hosts a 4A quarterfinal at 6 p.m. —thank you, scheduling gods — against D'Evelyn.
Happy Super Saturday.

First off, exhale.
I was really worried that the rating-percentage index was doing to do in Eagle Valley. Consider this a part of my general neurosis that CHSAA will find a way to mess with a Western Slope team.
So, huzzah, for No. 2.
Since Eagle Valley hasn't hosted regionals since 2010 — which is also the last year the team went to state, wink, wink — here's the format.
The Devils play Discovery Canyon at 11 a.m. Discovery Canyon then plays Evergreen at roughly 12:30 p.m. As always, the three matches roll with 15-minute breaks in between, so your mileage may vary. And, somewhere around 2 p.m., it's Evergreen and Eagle Valley.
We welcome back setter Molly Jewett to the lineup. Teammate Kylie Martin joked on Senior Night about getting a wheelchair for Jewett so that her sprained ankle would get better.
Now, we apparently need said wheelchair for Emma Lassa, who did her ankle. (Stop that, ladies.) According to coach Jackie Rindy, Lassa is questionable for this weekend.
Either way, play your game ladies. (This will be theme for this missive.) Yes, Saturday has the very fancy name of the Class 4A Region 2 Tournament, but it's two home matches, ones that you've rightly earned by going 20-3 during the regular season, including an 8-0 mark in Gyspum.
You've got this.
And, by the way, Evergreen beat you last weekend. Try not to take that too personally.
Please again, note the time change — Colorado Springs Christian at noon at Bandoni Alumni Field for the quarters.
I liked that Delta pushed the Gore Rangers in Round 2 on Saturday. Even more, I liked VMS' patience. Goals don't come easily in the playoffs after Round 1. They won't this Saturday, Hypothetically speaking, they wouldn't be easy against a certain team from some unnamed team from Denver, if VMS were to advance.
Use every inch of the field — go wide. That's your game. Robby Gruber, pretend you're playing Delta.
Guys, for a lot of you, this is your last game at The Bob. Make it count.
I don't normally advocate other teams scoring against Battle Mountain in the playoffs, but it was nice to see the Huskies take a punch on Tuesday. Battle Mountain never stopped attacking offensively, playing its game on a narrow pitch. Very good. Teams that make a run need some good goaltending as was the case with Christian Espinoza in 2012. Alan Villegas produced what may be the saves the of the season against Silver Creek.
While I take great satisfaction in seeing CHSAA's RPI bracket blown to smithereens, and the Huskies rightly getting a quarterfinal home game on Saturday at 6 p.m., D'Evelyn commands your respect by beating Cheyenne Mountain.
Play your game, fellas. Huskies team have knocked on the door during the quarterfinals. Time to bust through it.
And, yes, congratulations to Southern Methodist University on advancing as well.
