VAIL, Colorado – The Vail Recreation District’s Vail Mountain Trail Running Series will kick off the season Saturday featuring a new race, the Boneyard Boogie 10-K.
The trail run begins at 9 a.m. at Eagle Valley Middle School and continues to the Bureau of Land Management trailhead, located in the Bluffs Neighborhood in Eagle.
The trail includes a switchback singletrack through the heavily wooded BLM area emerging from the trees and into rolling sagebrush fields. Runners will encounter some trail splits along the way, plus several short climbs. Once at the top of the climb, the singletrack trail descends to the Eagle Pool and Ice Arena for an extended downhill run to the finish. The race also will take place as part ofthe Party for the Planet celebration that same day in Eagle and there will be free yoga in the park at 11 a.m. for runners who are looking to stretch after the race.
Registration and number pick-up will be available from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink on the morning of the race. Pre-registered racers can pick up their bibs at the start of the race at Eagle Valley Middle School.
The race is a point-to-point run with a one mile distance between the start and finish. Racers are encouraged to park at the Eagle Pool and take a warm-up run to Eagle Valley Middle School for the start of the race. Parking will also be available at Eagle Valley Middle School and there will be free shuttle service provided for race participants from the pool to the trailhead and service from the finish to Party for the Planet.
Following the race, runners will enjoy a brunch, compliments of the Dusty Boot in Eagle.

Running club begins June 2
Residents and visitors are encouraged to join the VRD for the return of its free, weekly running club this summer that will lead participants around Vail’s scenic recreation paths and on Vail Mountain’s trails. The club will be led by local runner Greg Decent and will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning June 2 at the base of the Vista Bahn in Vail Village, located in the Mountain Plaza area.
Although involvement in the weekly run is free, participants can purchase one-of-a-kind running club T-shirts for $15. Most runs will be between five and eight miles and all ages, experience and abilities are welcome. Runners should have a running base and feel comfortable at altitude. The club will be a great way to meet new training partners or just have fun running the roads and paths surrounding Vail. Runs will be followed by light stretching and a cool down.
