‘Spot the Tot’ safety campaign begins
Vail, CO Colorado
EAGLE COUNTY ” A program meant to prevent drivers from backing over children has begun in Eagle County following the death of a small boy last year in Edwards.
Drivers should take a few seconds to walk around their vehicle to check for children before getting in their vehicle and backing up, said Rosie Moreno, coordinator of the program.
“Those few seconds could save a child’s life,” Moreno said. “Most backovers occur in family driveways and in parking lots. Not only do drivers need to be vigilant, parents also need to assure that children play and ride bikes away from parking lots and parked cars.”
The most visible aspect of the “Spot the Tot” campaign will be car-window stickers that will be given out at local government offices, libraries, child care centers and other agencies. Volunteers will also give out stickers and events this summer at various community events.
