Best pre-ski breakfast and only true diner near Vail: The Turntable in Minturn. You would never guess eggs and refried beans would complement each other so well.Diner food is especially good if enjoyed on the way to Vail from the town of Avon, which offers affordable lodging at the Comfort Inn and several condominium complexes like Sun River. If you happen to be staying in Avon, check out Bob’s Place in the Avon Center. Same as Turntable when it comes to food, but switch the atmosphere: Bob’s place replaces Bronco’s paraphernalia with foosball and pool tables.Best place to steal crackers and condiments for lunch: Two Elk Lodge.Best, albeit short-lived, drink special: $1 drafts at The Club from 3 4 p.m.Best good food for less (lunch, dinner, aprs, whatever): Pazzo’s and La Cantina in Vail, both of which claim to be so cheap they don’t need specials.Best late-night food: DJ’s open 24 hours.Best lodging deal: Roost Lodge in West Vail, with rooms from $99.Best hook-up to replace lost luggage: Vail Ski Clothing Rentals in Lionshead, (970) 479-1904.Best tip for next year: Buy lift tickets online ahead of time (at least a week) to cut lines and save up to $85.Best girls’ night out: Shopping at the Riverwalk in Edwards, the place to dress to keep up with Vail’s fashion elite. Follow it up back in the Village with mudslides at Bully Ranch in the Sonnenalp.Best guys’ night out The Taproom, Vail’s best single’s bar. Chill in the bar or shake your tailfeathers upstairs at the Sanctuary on weekends. Or, if you’re really looking to just hang with your pals, start a dart tournament at Sundance Saloon in Lionshead or Art’s Bar just west of the Village parking structure.Best date night spot: La Tour, if the wallet can handle it. If not, Frites in Edwards offers French bistro-style dining at more affordable prices.– Kate Stepan
