Spring show sign-ups for Vail Valley youths
Vail CO, Colorado
EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” The Vail Performing Arts Academy will enroll students in its spring variety show through Jan. 1, academy executive producer Annah Scully said.
She encourages children ages 8 through 18 to sign up. Set for March 14 at the Vail Mountain School in East Vail, the show will include songs from Hairspray. Also, the Vail Valley Academy of Dance in Edwards will perform retro dance numbers.
“We always try to do a history lesson,” said Colin Meiring, artistic director for the Vail Performing Arts Academy. “They’re learning about the ’50s and ’60s, and the civil rights movement … especially with the election, it’s an important part of our history to know about.”
Auditions for lead soloists will take place Dec. 7 at Battle Mountain High School in Eagle-Vail. Aspiring soloists must turn in their tuition before the audition.
Rehearsals for the show begin Jan. 4, and will take place on Sundays from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Eagle-Vail Pavilion.
Scully said she plans to accept up to 70 students in the spring show. Tuition is $300. For more information, visit http://www.vailperformingarts.com.
The Vail Performing Arts Academy is a nonprofit group that provides performance opportunities to local students.
“The social aspect of it is amazing,” Scully said. “Kids get together from all the schools. It’s like a whole new group of friends they get to interact with.”
