Starbucks rebuffed in Glenwood

Greg Masse

GLENWOOD SPRINGS – An attempt by Starbucks to open a drive-through coffee window in North Glenwood was denied Tuesday.

The store would have been opened at the back end of the Qdoba restaurant at 510 Laurel, but the city’s planning staff felt the increased traffic would be too much for the narrow roads in that residential area.

“Qdoba’s didn’t use all of what used to be Denny’s, so they’re looking for another tenant,” city planner Patti Haefeli said.

Representatives of Starbucks brought the application for the drive-through window to the Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday to request the drive-through, a special review use.

“It’s directly adjacent to residential uses and the roads in that area are fairly small,” she said.

The commission nixed the idea by a vote of 6-1.
