AVON, Colorado – The Mexican restaurant Fiesta Jalisco in Avon was seized and closed over the weekend for nonpayment of sales taxes, according to a Colorado Department of Revenue notice in the window of the restaurant Monday afternoon.

Jose Rodriguez, the restaurant’s owner, said the restaurant had been closed due to plumbing problems, and said he had no comment about the Department of Revenue notice concerning the sales taxes.

He said the restaurant was scheduled to reopen Tuesday for dinner service at 5 p.m., although the Department of Revenue notice states the restaurant has been “seized for nonpayment of taxes, and is now in the possession of the State of Colorado.”

Michael Thayer, the Department of Revenue agent working on the case, said he was not authorized to speak to the media concerning the incident and forwarded the calls to someone who could. That spokesperson could not be reached Monday.
