State skier visits head for new record
Vail, CO, Colorado
DENVER ” Colorado Ski Country USA announced Wednesday that the state’s 26 resorts could reach a new year-end record for skier visits.
Between Oct. 13 and Feb. 28, Colorado ski resorts hosted 8.4 million skiers and snowboarders, an increase of 119,271 over the same period last year.
In addition to measuring skier visits, the state also uses a five-year skier visit average to track growth in the industry. Colorado is more than 720,000 skier visits ahead of its five-year, year-to-date average.
“We have approximately two months left in the ski season. We anticipate momentum to continue to build as we enter the spring skiing and riding season,” said Rob Perlman, Colorado Ski Country USA president and chief executive officer.
The Colorado ski industry represents a significant portion of Colorado tourism, the second-largest industry in the state. Last season, Colorado’s resorts set a new record for skier visits with more than 12.53 million visits.
