Stay warm and save money!
You dont have to shiver through the winter to save money. There are several things that you can do now to cut or reduce your heating costs and keep warm! 1. Better bulbs; lighting accounts for up to 10 percent of the electricity for a typical household. Use compact fluorescent bulbs; they use 66 percent less electricity, last 10 times longer, and can be found on sale for as little as $3 per bulb.2. Switch to newer, more efficient home appliances. Consider the governments Energy Star rating system as a guide. For example, a Sears Kenmore that costs 25 percent more than the standard model uses the electricity equivalent of a 50-watt light bulb. 3. Incorporate solar energy.4. Make sure your home is properly insulated, including attics and places where pipes enter the house.5. Install removable plastic sheeting in storm windows.6. Weather-strip doors.7. Use a programmable thermostat that adjusts for day and night, depending upon when people are not home or sleeping. 8. Turn off the lights when the room isnt being used.
