Steamboat sheriff to be sentenced for DWAI

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colorado ” Sentencing is scheduled Thursday for the Routt County sheriff following his conviction for driving while ability impaired.

A jury in Steamboat Springs found Gary Wall guilty in July on a charge of DWAI, failing to dim his headlights and prohibited use of a weapon.

A Colorado State Patrol trooper stopped Wall last October for driving toward approaching traffic with high-beam headlights on. Authorities say Wall then refused roadside sobriety and blood alcohol tests.

Wall said he was returning from an annual Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association celebration in Routt County when he initially was stopped. He denied consuming anything that would affect his ability to drive.

Wall faces up to two years behind bars and a fine of up to $5,500.
