Steamboat Springs man explains why he shot bear
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colorado – A Steamboat Springs man says he fired a shot that killed a bear two weeks ago, but he was only trying to scare it away from the alley behind his home.Kent Nightwalker says he intended to shoot into the dirt July 20 but accidentally killed the 200- to 300-pound male bear.The Colorado Division of Wildlife is investigating whether to issue a citation. District Attorney Elizabeth Oldham says she expects a decision within the next week.Wildlife officials have said the bear was rooting through trash but didn’t appear to be threatening human life or property when it was shot in the head.___Information from: Steamboat Pilot & Today, http://steamboatpilot.com/
