EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado ” A pickup truck police say was stolen Friday night in Vail, Colorado, was discovered Saturday morning smashed into a boulder in Edwards, Colorado.

The truck ” which was left unlocked with the keys inside ” was stolen from the parking lot of The Wren condominium complex, said Sgt. Samantha Graves, of the Vail Police Department.

The owner of the 1968 Chevrolet pickup truck called police at about 8 a.m. Saturday to report the vehicle stolen. A few hours later, an Eagle County Sheriff’s Office deputy found the vehicle in Freedom Park. The truck had crashed and was abandoned when it was discovered, police said.

Several thousand dollars’ worth of construction equipment was still inside the vehicle when it was found, Graves said. The truck was moderately damaged in the crash.

“Despite the idea that Vail is a sleepy community, it does fall alongside the interstate, and it’s important for people to lock their vehicles,” she said.
