Straw Weaving Workshop at Eagle Library
EAGLE, Colorado -Celebrated straw artist Linda D. Beiler will visit the Eagle Public Library on Tuesday at 6:30 pm for a straw weaving workshop. As a tradition, straw weaving is an ancient folk art made to celebrate a successful harvest season. Today, straw designs are admired for their beauty and intricacy. In her recently published book, “Wheat Weaving & Straw Art: Tips, Tools, and Techniques for Learning the Craft,” Beiler provides advice on the tools and materials needed to get started; tips on preparing the straw; step-by-step projects for mastering the techniques of plaiting, folding and spiraling; and more projects for combining techniques and adding decorative touches. Helpful series photographs demonstrate the process for creating hearts, bows, Arabic cages, Welsh fans and a variety of abstract pieces.Beiler is from Honey Brook, Penn.. She is a juried member of the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen and a member of the National Association of Wheat Weavers.This event is open to the public. There is a $5 materials charge and the workshop is limited to 25 people. Participants can register at the Eagle Public Library at 970-328-8800.
