Battle Mountain High School student Brianna Hiland was recently selected to participate in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Nursing in late February of this year in Boston.

Having proved herself academically and shown an interest in the nursing profession, Hiland joined more than 200 high school juniors and seniors from across the country at the nursing forum.

“The National Youth Leadership Forum on Nursing was designed to offer students like Brianna a firsthand look at the challenges and rewards faced by nursing professionals,” said Donna Snyder, executive director of the forum. “With the United States facing a critical shortage of personnel within this vital profession, there may be no better time than the present for young students to become involved at the ground level and learn the best in the field.”

Through hands-on workshops and simulated hospital situations, Hiland got a taste of the leadership and decision-making skills needed in the medical profession.

Students also explored the role of nurses in today’s healthcare environment.

Some of the most prestigious clinical institutions and most prominent nursing schools in the country plan will encourage the forum’s students to shadow nurses at highly-regarded Boston-area hospitals.

Hiland is the daughter of Debbie and Mike Hiland of Avon.
