EAGLE COUNTY, Colorado – Students at Eagle Valley Elementary School and Gypsum Creek Middle School will join more than 2,000 other schools across the country for “Mix It Up at Lunch Day.”
The event, scheduled for Nov. 8 at Gypsum Creek and Nov. 9 at Eagle Valley, is designed to foster respect and understanding in schools.
According to Teaching Tolerance, the organization that created “Mix It Up Day,” students thrive socially and academically in schools that are inclusive. Social contact between diverse groups helps alleviate tensions, reduce prejudice and build empathy.
“Mix It Up at Lunch Day” encourages students to sit with someone new in the cafeteria for just one day. By being a risk-taker on this day, students can cross the lines of social division in a safe, controlled environment.
