Summer concert series rocks Beaver Creek
BEAVER CREEK, Colorado Variety is the key to the summer schedule at the Vilar Performing Arts Center in Beaver Creek, Colorado. And summer 2009 is all about variety: dance, classical music, family films, musical theatre, thought-provoking documentaries and, the highlight, our summer concert series.We are still working to secure several exciting artists to round out the series, and will be announcing the full schedule of performances in the next week. In the meantime, here is a preview of shows that are already on sale:On July 2, one of the greatest horn bands in the history of rock, Blood, Sweat & Tears will perform with special guest Chuck Negron. Blood, Sweat & Tears classics hits include Spinning Wheel, God Bless the Child, Youve Made Me So Very Happy and many others. For the second half of the evening, the band will come back out and perform with Chuck Negron, one of the original voices of Three Dog Night. While Negron no longer sings with Three Dog Night, he does perform many of their classic songs including One, Easy to be Hard, Joy to the World and Elis Coming. On July 22, Grammy and CMA Award-winning country artist Ronnie Milsap comes to town to share his No. 1 hits, including Stranger in my House, Smoky Mountain Rain, I Wouldnt Have Missed It for the World, Any Day Now, It Was Almost Like A Song, What A Difference Youve Made In My Life and Theres No Getting Over You. These are only a handful of the 40 No. 1 hits hes recorded. While I am no country music aficionado, I have to admit that I have more than a few of his songs on my iPod and I cant wait to see this performance.On Aug. 2, Grammy-winning jazz vocalist and pianist Diana Krall makes her eagerly anticipated debut in Beaver Creek. This show is already sold out, but I recommend putting your name on the waiting list for any last minute tickets that become available.On Aug. 12, guitarist Peter Frampton makes his Vilar Center debut. His 1976 album, Frampton Comes Alive, is one of the best-selling live recordings of all time. His top hits include Baby I Love Your Way, Do You Feel Like We Do and Show Me the Way. For those who have not kept up with his career, he won a Grammy best pop instrumental album in 2007 for Fingerprints. Michael Boltons performance, originally scheduled for Aug. 24, has been changed to Aug. 20. But tickets are still available and going fast so dont wait to get yours. Among Boltons many honors are Grammy awards for best male vocalist with the hits How Am I Supposed to Live Without You and When A Man Loves A Woman. Other hits include Soul Provider, Said I Loved You …But I Lied, Missing You Now and many others. Not only a gifted singer with a soaring voice, Bolton is also a talented songwriter and has written hit songs for Barbara Streisand and Kiss, and performed with legends Lucciano Pavarotti, Ray Charles and BB King. In 2006 he released a tribute to Ol Blue Eyes with Bolton Swings Sinatra.Tickets for the entire season go on Sale June 1 at 11am. A survey showed a good bit of support for local government action to bolster workforce housing in town. For now though, that support stops at supporting a new tax for funding.
