VAIL — The Vail Public Library will kick off its summer reading program, “Dig into Reading,” with Brian Hall and friends on Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the library’s Community Room. Hall’s performance will begin at 2 p.m., after registration and the weekly summer reading activities.
For more than 20 years, Hall has used Beaver Creek Children’s Theatre to create entertainment and fun for the children and families of Colorado.
“Dig into Reading” will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. every Tuesday afternoon (with entertainers beginning at 2 p.m.) from June 11 to Aug. 6. Elementary students entering first through fifth grade, locals and visitors alike are encouraged to attend. Weekly events include a read aloud story, art activities, games and a special presenter.
The goal of the program is to keep students reading with fun activities and a prize store for reward-based incentives.
Research shows that participation in a summer reading program prepares students for a successful return to school in the fall. Without it, there is often a measurable loss in reader fluency.
It is fortunate in Colorado that the Lt. Governor’s office is actively involved in children’s literacy and supports events and initiatives to that end.
Registration is free and available at the event. For more specific information visit http://www.vaillibrary.com or call 970-479-2187.
