VAIL, Colorado ” Lead by Mark Jeffery on electric bass and trombone, the Summit Jazz Consort will bring traditional live jazz to the Vail Farmer’s Market today. The group includes Dave Rucker on bass, Dave Jackson on drums and Rick Weingarten on the vibraphone.

“This is our sixth year working with the Vail Jazz Foundation at the market, and we love to be part of such a great event” Jeffery said. “The folks who sit to listen are clearly jazz fans; they’re attentive and really dig our sound.”

Founded by Jeffery in 1996, the Summit Jazz Consort is comprised of 19 musicians who came together for their love of traditional jazz. By drawing on a variety of musicians, the consort can customize the musical grouping to best suit the occasion and venue.

Jeffery, who originally came from Georgia to pursue his passion for skiing, was thrilled to be able to create a jazz presence in the region.

“There was hardly any jazz when I got here, and the consort just grew out of a desire to play good jazz here in Colorado,” Jeffery said.

The Vail Jazz Foundation presents blues, standards, vocals and straight ahead jazz to the Vail Farmers’ Market from noon to 3:30 p.m. through Aug. 24. This is a unique opportunity to catch some of the region’s hottest jazz talent on Meadow Drive in Vail Village.

The Vail Jazz Foundation is a nonprofit organization, celebrating 14 years of providing outstanding jazz music and jazz education programs in the Vail Valley of Colorado. For more information, visit
