Summit on parenting teens will be held in Vail Valley
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL VALLEY, Colorado –The Eagle River Youth Coalition will host a community summit, “Helping Adolescents Make Healthy Choices”, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 29 at Berry Creek Middle School in Edwards in Colorado’s Vail Valley.
Parents of teens and tweens, school educators and community members are invited to an evening of panel discussion led by mental health experts, substance abuse counselors and youth representatives.
This summit as part of the Youth Coalition’s “Parents, You Matter” positive-parenting campaign and is a free, bilingual event. The Youth Coalition launched the campaign last fall after a survey and focus groups revealed five top positive parenting behaviors in the Vail Valley.
The aim is to empower parents by spreading the word that the majority of them are making wise parenting decisions, such as 96 percent of Eagle County parents don’t allow their kids and their friends to drink alcohol in their homes and 92 percent of Eagle County parents talk with their kids about not riding with a driver who has been drinking alcohol, said Cristina Gair, executive director of the Youth Coalition.
“The end goal of the Parents, You Matter campaign is that parents, along with Eagle County community and youth advocates, partner with the Youy Coalition in actively supporting positive decisions and solutions concerning teens and tweens,” Gair said.
