Kim Marquis

In a front page story Monday, Independent Daily publisher Kristie Hannon bade “Farewell” to supporters and announced that the newspaper would cease publication – at least for the present. Hannon indicated the move would be temporary “to reorganize aspects of the publication,” the story read. When contacted Monday, Hannon declined further comment.

The Independent Daily opened in November 2002, touting itself as a locally owned newspaper. It published Monday through Friday. The paper was launched by Christine Blaski, M. John Fayhee, Tara Flanagan, Mark Fox, Ethan Harris and Hannon, all veterans of the local media scene. The move follows a late-March announcement by Summit Times publisher Bethanne Dressel that the weekly paper would be merged with the Copper Cable, also published by Dressel’s company, Summit County Publishing. In its 29th year of publication, the Copper Cable is printed biweekly mid- November through mid-April and monthly in June, July and August. The final issue of the Summit Times hit the stands March 31.
