Vail Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado –Dr. Sandra Smyser, the superintendent of Eagle County Schools, will speak on the importance of literacy at the Vail’s public library on Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the community room.

This event is part of Literacy Awareness Week, a collaborative effort of Room to Read, The Literacy Project of Eagle County, the Eagle Valley Library District and Vail library to raise awareness about the importance of literacy both locally and globally.

The title of Smyser’s presentation is “Literacy: A Necessary Component for an Active Participant in Eagle County and Beyond.”

“In our society, the ability to read is crucial,” Smyser says. “We want all of our community members to be able to fully participate in everything that life has to offer. And we want all adults to be able to understand issues, develop their opinions and have a voice. Without literacy, this is very difficult.”
