Vail, CO Colorado

EAGLE COUNTY ” Parents of gifted and talented children, aged elementary or younger, can sign up for a support group to better understand their gifted children and learn how to work with them more effectively.

This will be a seven week program run by Jane West, an early childhood and school counselor, and Dr. Kathie Goulet, a licensed clinical psychologist.

Topics will include understanding how gifted children are motivated and disciplined, and how they communicate, manage stress and relate to peers and siblings. Gifted students’ risk of depression also will be discussed.

The program will cost $120, which includes the book “Guiding the Gifted Child” by Dr. James Webb, Stephanie Tolan and Betsy Mecksroth, as well as additional materials and refreshments.

Scholarships are available for those who may not be able to afford the entire fee. It will be Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m., April 7 through May 19.

The support group is being sponsored by The Gifted Education Team of Eagle County, and the Eagle County School District.
