Suspect arrested in Colorado fire station burglaries
WESTMINSTER, Colo. – Westminster police have arrested a man suspected of breaking into Front Range fire departments to steal gear and narcotics used on patients.
Police said Tuesday that 48-year-old Robert John Burns Jr. was arrested on suspicion of second-degree burglary for controlled substances, first-degree trespass to a vehicle, and theft of between $500 and $1,000.
Police say an anonymous tip led to his arrest. Burns is a mechanic for a private company that services fire engines.
Police say 10 Front Range agencies, including two Westminster fire stations, have been victims of burglaries between October 2009 and last February.
Westminster Deputy Fire Chief Bill Work says the department has tightened security for its stations and ambulances.
