Suspect arrested in Glenwood Springs bank robbery

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” Authorities in Las Vegas Monday arrested the suspect in last week’s Alpine Bank robbery in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
Jeffrey Smith, 27, of Glenwood Springs, was arrested on suspicion of federal
bank robbery charges and parole violation, the Glenwood Springs Police
Department said in a news release.
Police said investigators followed up on leads, identified evidence and
compiled information on possible suspects. “Several days into the
investigation a primary suspect was identified,” the press release said.
Glenwood Springs police asked Las Vegas police and the Federal Bureau of
Investigation Fugitive Task Force to arrest Smith. They said he was picked
up at a hotel.
On Monday, Dec. 15, an individual robbed the West Glenwood Springs bank
around 4:30 p.m. According to a police press release, the man handed a bank
teller a note and displayed a semi-automatic pistol before leaving with an
undisclosed amount of money.
Police Chief Terry Wilson said he could not discuss further details such as
what led to the arrests.
The same Alpine Bank location was also robbed about 10 years ago.
