Suspect in deadly crash has DUI record
Vail, CO Colorado
GRAND JUNCTION ” A man who allegedly ran from police in a deadly crash on Highway 65 has an extensive criminal history, including two drunk driving arrests.
Logan Lage, 24, of Grand Junction ” suspected in Tuesday’s crash that resulted in a pregnant woman losing her unborn child ” was arrested twice in 2001 in Garfield County on misdemeanor DUI charges, according to Colorado Bureau of Investigation records.
Lage was arrested in Grand Junction in July 2004 on three more driving-related offenses, including driving on a suspended license. He was arrested again locally in June 2005 on special offender drug charges.
The Colorado State Patrol said drugs and alcohol are suspected factors in the wreck Tuesday that injured 26-year-old Shea Lehnen of Collbran, and her 1-year-old son.
Lehnen’s unborn child, eight months along, was pronounced dead at St. Mary’s Hospital.
The state patrol said in a news release a trooper tried to stop Lage’s Jeep Cherokee for speeding on Highway 330, milepost 2, around 8:16 a.m. A pursuit ended 15 miles later on Highway 65, when Lage tried to pass a semi-truck over a double-yellow line.
The Jeep slammed head-on into Lehnen’s Nissan.
Lehnen’s 1-year-old boy suffered minor injuries. Lage suffered serious injuries and was flown by St. Mary’s Careflight to the hospital. His condition was unknown late Tuesday.
State Patrol spokesman Sgt. John Hahn said troopers have discretion as far as when to end a high-speed pursuit.
“Basically, the officer must continuously evaluate all circumstances around him, while weighing the seriousness of the incident,” Hahn said.
