Suspect in Front Range double slaying surrenders

THORNTON, Colorado ” Thornton police say a man suspected of shooting two neighbors to death turned himself in after relatives picked him in Cheyenne, Wyo.

Police spokesman Matt Barnes says Lance Leroy McDermed walked into the Thornton police station Monday afternoon with his mother and stepfather. The 36-year-old is suspected of killing of Marco Antonio Escobedo and his wife, Vera Marie Escobedo, on Saturday. The victims lived near McDermed in a condominium complex.

Barnes says McDermed is being held without bail at the Adams County jail on investigation of two first-degree murder counts.

Weld County deputies had previously found McDermed’s car at a truck stop along Interstate 25 about 20 miles north of Thornton.
