Suspected Army deserter charged in boy’s death

WESTMINSTER ” A suspected Army deserter was charged Wednesday with vehicular homicide in a crash that killed a 10-year-old boy.

Joshua Beadle, 21, also was charged with criminal impersonation, driving under restraint and obstruction of a police officer, police said. He was suspected of being three times the legal limit for alcohol Friday at the time police said he ran a red light and caused a crash that killed Cole Collins.

Beadle was driving with a suspended license, said Detective Joseph McArdle.

Beadle was charged with desertion from the U.S. Army on Dec. 22, and was being held on $20,000 bail.

Beadle, who police said initially gave police a false name and birth date at the scene, said he was the passenger in the vehicle that struck the SUV that Collins was in.

Witnesses identified him as the driver, police said.

Collins was not buckled and was thrown from the vehicle when it rolled.
