AVON — Yoga postures were originally designed as a systematic practice for improving the health and well-being of people who were suffering from disease or injury.
“Yoga today can include so much quick movement or strength training that it may exclude some of the folks who would benefit most from the practice,” said Karen Anderson, yoga director at Synergy Center for Wellness in Avon.
YOGA FOR EVERYONE
Synergy is launching a new program on Jan. 20 called Yoga for Healing to provide the opportunity to practice yoga to everyone, including beginners, those with physical limitations and the inclination to improve their physical and mental health.
Anderson has been leading private therapeutic yoga sessions for eight years for those with pysical limitations, and she is continually amazed at what yoga postures can do for realigning the body and allowing it to function optimally again.
“The body is designed to heal itself, and yoga provides a combination of relaxation, stimulation and mindfulness to allow for healing,” Anderson said.
