Talks on municipal building redevelopment continue
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado – In preparation for key decisions to take place later in January regarding the proposed Vail municipal site redevelopment, the Vail Town Council will review a list of critical questions related to the project when it meets for its regular session today.
The town, in a partnership with Vail Valley Medical Center, the Steadman Clinic and the Steadman Philippon Research Institute, has been studying the potential to build a medical office building on the west side of the site and a new municipal building on the east side of the property. The partners have contracted with Triumph Development LLC for the project’s initial feasibility analysis.
During today’s work session, which begins at 2 p.m. following a strategic planning session earlier in the day, the council will review more detailed information on a proposed site plan for the project, as well as schematic space allocations for the municipal building.
The project contemplates a new 55,551-square-foot medical office building and 21,850 square feet for municipal offices in two separate buildings serviced by a 200-space underground parking garage. The town’s portion of the redevelopment is estimated at $12 million, which excludes the cost of the land.
During the evening meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. today, the council will determine if additional information-gathering will be needed to prepare for a series of key decisions to be made at its subsequent meeting on Jan. 17. Those decisions include approval of a memorandum of understanding with the development partners which contemplates a land sale, plus a municipal financing mechanism, as well as programming for the municipal portion of the site and an overall timetable. Members of the public will have an opportunity to address the council on the topic during today’s evening session. The item is listed sixth on the meeting agenda.
Additional information about the project is available on the town’s website at http://www.vailgov.com or by contacting George Ruther, town of Vail community-development director, at 970-479-2145.
