Tancredo to officially enter Colorado governor’s race
LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Former Colorado congressman Tom Tancredo plans to make his candidacy for governor official.
Tancredo planned to announce his entry into the race Thursday in Lakewood. He has said he’s running because he doesn’t believe either Republican candidate can defeat Democrat John Hickenlooper in November.
Tancredo is switching his party affiliation from Republican to the American Constitution Party. He had demanded that the winner of the GOP primary Aug. 10 drop out of the race if the polls show the Democrat ahead.
Candidates Scott McInnis and Dan Maes say they’re staying in the race. The two have struggled with accusations of misbehavior – McInnis for allegedly plagiarizing essays he wrote for a foundation and Maes for campaign finance violations.
