VAIL Tap dancing sensation Savion Glover will perform a special program for Vail International Dance Festival audiences with live musical accompaniment by The Otherz and special guests Marshall Davis, Jr. and Maurice Chestnut at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater.Glovers program, Live For Vail is a blend of rhythm and cadence-a performance that combines musical rhythms from jazz to reggae, taking tap to its highest level of expression.A native of New Jersey, Glover has captivated audiences from around the world with his choreographies, spontaneous spirit, bursting energy and virtuosic steps. Winner of the 1996 Tony award for his choreography in Bring in da noise, Bring in da funk, in this work Glover pays homage to his teachers, alludes to tap dance and jazz legends and offers a vibrant depiction of his journey as a Hoofer.About Marshall Davis Jr. & Maurice Chestnut:Continuing in the tradition of The Original Hoofers and other Master Tap groups, this core of Tap dancers that include Marshall Davis Jr. and Maurice Chestnut have collectively dedicated their artistic gifts to the art form of Tap dancing. Honoring their mentors and pioneers of this art form, Marshall Davis and Maurice Chestnut continue to share the importance of life, joy, and self expression through Tap dancing.About The Otherz:Headed by Savion Glover, this quartet comprised of former solo musicians, Patience Higgins (Horn, Flute, Saxophone), Andrew McCloud (Bass), Tommy James (Piano) and Dwayne Cook Broadnax (Drums), decided to join together for the advancement of jazz music several years ago. Now adding Tap dancing as an additional instrument, the group plan is to continue developing an acceptance from the listener, allowing them to understand Tap dancing being displayed as the sound of an instrument. Tickets for Savion Glover are priced at $65 and $50 for Reserved Amphitheater pavilion seating, and $17 for General Admission lawn seating.Tickets for the 2007 Vail International Dance Festival are available online at http://www.vaildance.org or by calling 845-TIXS (8497) or 1-888-920-ARTS (2787).
