Tap superstar kicks off Vail dance festival
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado –Hello Vail Valley. It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the 2009 Vail International Dance Festival.
We kick off on Monday at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater with the incredible tap dancer Savion Glover backed up by his “tap band” – Glover’s spectacular dancing colleagues Cartier Williams and Marshall Davis Jr. – and the jazz quartet, The Otherz.
This show is going to set the house on fire as anyone who was at Glover’s show at the 2007 festival will tell you, and tickets are selling fast, so don’t delay. The man who brought Mumble to life in the hit film, “Happy Feet,” will be a thrill for the whole family to se.
On Tuesday night, head over to the Vilar Center in Beaver Creek to see and hear Glover in a completely different way – up close. This show is designed to get behind the curtain and not only see how Glover dances but get to know him better in the intimate setting of the Vilar Center. I’ll be hosting the evening, and hopefully Glover will show us where he is taking tap dancing in the 21st century.
Looking ahead, there is so much dancing on the way. In our first weekend, Miami City Ballet will make its Vail debut on Aug. 1 with an all Balanchine program specially put together for Vail. A night of stars awaits on Aug. 2 with the Festival Highlights Spectacular featuring ballet superstars Gillian Murphy and Ethan Stiefel.
The festival runs through Aug. 11. For a full schedule, artists profiles, to purchase tickets and to follow our daily-updated photo and video blog, visit http://www.vaildance.org.
