Taste French wines at vin48 in Avon
VAIL CO, Colorado
AVON – Select French wines highlighting stages from this year’s Tour de France will be showcased at vin48 Wednesday in Avon as part of the restaurant and wine bar’s weekly tasting series.
Zach Locke, Eagle County resident and owner of Old World Imports, will pour four of his favorite regional French wines.
“It is great to have a local importer like Zach in the Vail Valley with such an outstanding book of French and Austrian wines,” said Greg Eynon, owner of vin48 “If you’re browsing for a wine in a local wine shop and you see Old World Imports on the back label, you can be assured that you are buying a wine with integrity and a sense of place.”
Old World Imports and Old World Wine Co., based in Eagle, has a philosophy of sourcing and bringing quality French and Austrian wines to Colorado. The principals used in deciding which wines to import and distribute are based on three main standards: quality, sense of place and value. All of the wines chosen must meet these criteria, Locke said.
Locke only works with producers who grow their own grapes and make their own wines with top quality standards, year in and year out. They must be representative of their terroir and varietal. And they must be an appropriate price for their appellation.
“In honor of the annual Tour de France, we will be trying four different wines from four different areas. The four regions are the Loire Valley, Provence, Burgundy and the Rhone Valley. They are all different, but they all have some things in common. All of the wines are chosen because they are quality wines, they are made from grapes farmed in a natural way by small, family-run estates, made using only indigenous native yeasts and all are representative of where they come from,” Locke said.
Vin48 chef and owner Charles Hayes will pair the wines with appetizers on the restaurant’s patio.
The event is part of vin48’s summer tasting series, which takes place every Wednesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Vin48 serves products from visiting winemakers, breweries, importers and industry insiders and pairs them with Hayes’ cuisine. All of the wines served are available for purchase at discounted prices from Beaver Liquors in Avon.
