Taste of Vail announces signature cocktail
VAIL, Colorado This year Taste of Vail is proud to announce 10 Cane, the premium rum from Mot Hennessy as a top sponsor of the festival. To celebrate the Trinidadian rum, Kelly Liken, chef/owner of Restaurant Kelly Liken in Vail, created one of the festivals signature drinks, The Taste of Vail. Liken developed the drink when she was snowed in one evening at home drinking a Dark & Stormy, a popular cocktail that combines dark rum and ginger beer, often times served in the tropics. I thought, why not perfect it for the Rocky Mountain climate? Liken said. I was inspired by my surroundings and the taste for something warm and a bit more complex. I came across a hand-pressed apple cider from a local Colorado farmer. The tartness of the unfiltered apple cider balanced well with the spicy and sweet ginger beer and oakey richness of the rum perfect on a snowy day!Using rum and spicy ginger beer, this drink is meant to warm a skier after a day on the slopes, or keep a guest toasty on a stormy day.
1 1/2 ounces 10 Cane Rum1 1/2 ounces ginger beer1 1/2 ounces apple cider Combine ingredients in a shaker and mix. Serve over ice in a vanilla sugar rimmed rocks glass.
