AVON — Avon restaurant vin48 will host vintner-owner Kurt Beitler of Boheme wines from the Sonoma Coast during its summer tasting series Wednesday. Beitler will pour his cool climate pinot noirs, chardonnays and syrah from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on vin48’s patio.

Boheme Wines operates in the town of Occidental in West Sonoma County on the Sonoma Coast. Beitler makes five cool climate wines from three leased vineyards that rank among the closest to the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean.

“I aim for wines that are very flavorful — those are the wines I admire — aromatically beautiful, engaging, lovable wines,” Beitler said. “They can come in many forms. This is in contrast to some that are overtly subdued or modest, that are purported to be in balance. I’d rather not to be so dogmatic about what’s regal. Balance is subject to the person or the moment. I love flavorful, structured wines and I believe in allowing nature’s flavors to shine brightly.”

Beitler grew up with a strong family tradition of winemaking. His grandfather, Charlie Wagner, founded famed Caymus Vineyards in 1972 and his uncle, Chuck Wagner, convinced him to work for Caymus as the vineyard manager for Caymus’ Belle Glos Pinot Noir project.

Boheme suggests both a place and a state of mind. The Bohemian Highway runs through the town of Occidental, on the Sonoma Coast of California. The road’s name stems from the late 1800s when Bohemian Club members trekked to a nearby redwood grove for their summer encampment. It’s a well-named road: the area surrounding Bohemian highway has always inspired artistic expression and free living.

Charles Hays, vin48’s chef and owner, will pair the wines with appetizers on the restaurant’s patio. The event is part of vin48’s summer tasting series, which takes place every Wednesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Vin48 serves wines from visiting winemakers, breweries, distillers, importers and industry insiders and pairs them with Hays’ cuisine. All the wines served are available for purchase at discounted prices from Beaver Liquors in Avon. The event is $25 and includes wine tasting and light appetizers. Call 970-748-9463 for reservations.
