AVON — Importer Christopher Rowe of Old Bridge Cellars will visit Vin48 on Wednesday as part of the restaurant’s Summer Tasting Series. Rowe will pour all southern hemisphere wines from the Old Bridge Cellars Portfolio.
Rowe began his career in the hospitality industry while attending Boston University for his hotel and restaurant management degree. He moved to Chicago in 1990 where he worked for Lettuce Entertain You Restaurant Group. While in Chicago, his interest turned to wine where he began his studies at the Chicago Wine School.
Upon moving to Denver, he worked for the California Café and established a wine school for public wine education and later expanded to The Seasoned Chef and a wine educator for City Wine while starting his own company, Barique. Barique, focused on all aspects of restaurant and wine education, consulting, as well private and commercial wine storage design and collecting.
Rowe’s career with Southern Wine & Spirits began in 2001 as the director of education, and he worked for four and a half years at the company, both as the director of education and vice president of the American division. After 13 years in the restaurant business, extensive travel, as well as a dedication to the court of Master Sommelier Program (of which he has reached the advanced level) he dedicated his interests full time to wine and spirits education and sales. It was with Southern that Rowe became acquainted with the wines of Old Bridge Cellars, its winemakers and families.
In this age of “big company” buyouts, increasing consolidation and mass production, Old Bridge Cellars brings together a group of fiercely independent winemakers who retain their belief in artisan winemaking. Coming to know their land through the generations before them, they have an intuitive understanding, quiet confidence and desire to produce only the best they can from each vintage. Charles Hays, vin48’s chef and owner, will pair the wines with appetizers on the restaurant’s patio. The event is part of vin48’s Summer Tasting Series, which takes place every Wednesday and features winemakers and importers from the world’s best wine growing region. The wines are paired with Hays’ cuisine. The event is $25, which includes wine tasting and appetizers. All wines served are available at discounted prices from series partner Beaver Liquors in Avon.
