Teen charged in crash that killed trooper
BRIGHTON, Colorado ” Prosecutors have filed careless-driving charges against a 17-year-old accused of crashing into two state troopers near Brighton, killing one of them.
Zachariah Templeton died one day after the October 11th crash on Interstate 76. Trooper Scott Hinshaw was seriously injured.
The teen was charged with careless driving resulting in death and careless driving resulting in bodily injury.
If convicted, he could be sentenced to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine on each count.
Authorities say the troopers were helping a motorist load a tank back onto a trailer after it fell off. They say the teen driver had looked down to find some sunflower seeds and looked up too late to avoid the backed-up traffic.
