GRAND JUNCTION ” A plea deal calls for 16 years in prison for a Fruitvale teen accused of leaving her newborn girl to die in a bedroom cabinet.
Cheyenne Corbett, 18, pleaded guilty Tuesday to child abuse resulting in death and a separate sentence-enhancer charge. The district attorney’s office dropped a murder charge in the 15-month-old case.
Corbett will be sentenced Dec. 14.
An arrest affidavit says Corbett gave birth to a baby girl in the shower of her parents’ Fruitvale home in the pre-dawn hours of July 22, 2006.
Corbett admitted she’d wrapped the girl in a towel and left her inside an entertainment center cabinet.
The girl was found dead by Corbett’s mother hours later.
