Teen parenting workshop begins next week
September 27, 2012
AVON, Colorado – Eagle River Youth Coalition will offer the Active Parenting of Teens workshop series for parents of children ages 10-18 in both English and Spanish. The six-session video and discussion program will be held on Tuesday evenings, beginning next week, from 5:30-8 p.m., at Battle Mountain High School.
“The Eagle River Youth Coalition is proud to offer Active Parenting of Teens to the parents in our community,” said Michelle Hartel, executive director of Eagle River Youth Coalition. “A need was recognized for additional support for parents with children in these sometimes challenging age groups. ERYC responded by training community leaders for this evidence-base curriculum so that we could work collaboratively with community partners to increase opportunities for skill-building and dialogue around pressing parenting areas.”
This program combines entertaining video and engaging discussion to help parents learn how to raise children who are cooperative, responsible and able to resist peer pressure. Active Parenting also guides parents in dealing with sensitive issues such as drugs, sexuality and violence.
The cost of the six session series is $50 per person or $75 percouple and includes course materials and dinner each week. Scholarships are available for qualifying families.
